What book should I read for my Senior summer assignment?

The stranger is probably the shortest. Basically, this guy kills a guy but doesn't feel bad about it. However, Catcher in the Rye is a lot of fun, and I'm a huge fan or Sherman Alexie (although his characters tend to be really whiny).
