What does "hanging yourself 10 feet over the edge" mean?

i heard it in the song Yesterday by Toni Braxton and Trey Songz. There is also something else i would like to know and that is when Trey Song's part is on and he says " My promises don't mean a thing.The end is so disgusting" what does he mean?
